Armilis and Wilktronics Announce Strategic Partnership for IoT and Blockchain-Based Solutions in the Energy Sector.

Lugano, Switzerland, 29 September 2024 – Armilis and Wilktronics today announced a strategic partnership to develop innovative solutions combining the Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain technology. This collaboration aims to ensure data security and integrity in the energy sector and smart energy infrastructures.

Wilktronics, a Swiss company specializing in the use of open-source technology to promote innovation and efficiency in industrial processes, and Armilis, a Mendrisio-based deep tech company providing data integrity and blockchain certification services in the IoT and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) fields, have announced a major innovation based on open and decentralized technologies.

The partnership’s main goal is to implement a blockchain-certified remote monitoring and control system for energy efficiency infrastructures and systems. This “green deal” for the industry aims to protect the integrity of data and commands exchanged with Wilktronics’ PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and HMI (Human Machine Interface) units, adopting a state-of-the-art solution compliant with Industry 5.0, CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive), and new ESG standards.

The collaboration will involve installing the Armilis software module on Wilktronics’ PLC and HMI units, ensuring the integrity of received data and maintaining the integrity of sent commands and loaded firmware.

“We are excited about this collaboration, which combines two complementary open-source technologies to offer better 360-degree monitoring and control systems,” said Ludovico Binda, CEO of Armilis. “We want to meet data security and quality requirements not through ‘closed boxes’ but through open systems, a paradigm on which much of the IT security we want to bring to industrial control is based.”

Mark Wilkinson, CEO of Wilktronics, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that “this partnership represents a quantum leap in the open-source galaxy, making our system, hardware and software, which by definition is open, unassailable and secure from manipulation and improper use.”

The new joint project, titled “Industrial Data Security and Traceability: The Role of Blockchain in PLCs,” will be presented at the “A&T Nordest” fair in Vicenza, from November 6th to 8th, at Hall 6, booth A06. Demonstrations will be available, and targeted consultations can be provided.
